Visiting the Camera Obscura

Scottie loves all the optical illusions, lighting effects and camera
tricks at the Camera Obscura. Whenever we have a free day, that's what
he chooses to do. He likes 'picking up and flicking' unsuspecting
tourists at the Camera Obscura show at the top. I like the views!

Red Hot Chilli Penguins

Penguin mania with Lottie and Scottie this morning. The Red Hot Chilli
Penguins are jammin' on Club Penguin - seem to be missing bagpipes!

Tuesday 28 July 2009

Fisher and Donaldson's Fudge Doughnuts

Scottie discovers that F&D's fudge doughnuts are available in
Edinburgh, so he doesn't have to wait to go to St Andrews for them!
Yum.

Tourists in Edinburgh

Lottie has gone to visit friends today, so Scottie had a choice of
where to go. It's official - the favourite place on the Royal Mile for
a 7-year old boy is the Camera Obscura. We set off through the
Canongate Tolbooth to explore!

Climbing in Edinburgh

Just by the National Gallery and Royal Scottish Academy in Princes
Street is Scottie's chosen spot for a bit of climbing on a 3-D
sculptural map of the city centre of Edinburgh. He loves finding where
we've just walked. He had to move an American lady who was perched on
the edge in his search for where Craigwell Cottage is - it was just
off the edge! (www.2edinburgh.co.uk)

Just the two of us...

Scottie said we matched the picture on the walkway at the Modern Art
Gallery ....included my Fitflops for sense of scale!

An afternoon at the Gallery of Modern Art

There's an Artist's Rooms exhibition at the Gallery of Modern Art in
Edinburgh, which Scottie and I visited yesterday. Amongst those
featured are Damien Hirst and Andy Warhol. Saw 'Away fron the Flock'
- the lamb in formaldehyde exhibit which is moving in a disturbing
way. And Warhol photographs stitched together, which I didn't know
about. Also a piece of Barbara Hepworth sculpture which completed the
missing link. Saw a similar piece in St Ives a couple of weeks ago,
and couldn't remember where I'd seen it before.

Golf at Hermitage Children's Course

While Scottie had his lesson this morning, Lottie and her friend Kiki
played round the 12 hole children's course at Hermitage of Braid,
Edinburgh. Fantastic day out. Only £5 per child including club hire
and balls for a day membership. So the two girls played for about 5
hours!
Scottie looking forward to getting out on the course tomorrow after
practising full swings today.

Scottie takes golf lessons

Despite the showers this morning two hardy groups of Scottish lads
took to the course this morning at Hermitage of Braid to have some
lessons in pitching and putting. Scottie says he's coming back, but
wasn't too keen on the rain!

Strawberry jam making 2009

The raw materials for our first batch of strawberry jam - a trayful of
'jam berries' cost us £5 from which we got 12 lbs 12 oz of useable
strawberries, and made 28 pots of jam. Mmmm.

Raspberry Jewels

Our first batch of raspberry jam for 2009 was a glorious colour, like
a delicious jewel.

Lottie baking

As the strawberry jam was bubbling away on the stove, it was time for
Lottie to get going with making scones to eat with the first batch of
new jam - but then of course we realised that we still had some left
over from last year and the new batch was still a bit too hot!

Raspberry Picking

www.cairniefruitfarm.co.UK. Essential Scottish kit - rain jacket over
arm!

Berry picking

After incredible disappointment that Allanhill Farm not doing Pick
your Own berries this year, we found that Cairnie Fruit Farm was doing
a roaring trade. Not only selling delicious berries, but also with
Maze and Trampolines etc. Ended up spending all day there!

Lottie's Tattoo

We found that the Egyptian Dancers at Chester Amphitheatre were
offering henna tattoos. So now Lottie's a Tattooed Lady.

At the Chester Roman Amphitheatre

Wow, we struck lucky this morning. Happened past the Amphitheatre just
as the Romans arrived to begin their spectacular! Salve!

Visit to Trebah Gardens, Mawnan Smith, Cornwall

We lure Lottie and Scottie to a garden trail at Trebah, with the
promise of an adventure playground and a beach with ice creams.
Feeding the fish also provided fun.

Lottie & Scottie in St Ives

Scottie gets his legs buried on the beach.

One for Molly

Rest awhile at Pandora's Inn

We stopped for first aid as Lottie fell on gravel and grazed her arm
quite badly. Luckily the bar staff at Pandora's Inn were very kind and
helpful and supplied a pot of warm water to bathe the injury. A cream
tea and we were all set to complete our walk round to Mylor Bridge.

The Miller at Restronguet Creek

The Miller was built on the East Coast of Scotland and is currently
moored at Restronguet Creek, near Pandora's Inn.

Rainforest Biodome.

Falmouth Lady

We're not sure what this lady did to deserve being abandoned in a lane
in Falmouth, but Lottie and Scottie were fascinated.

Scallops on the BBQ

Lottie loves scallops. We found that the local fish shop in Mylor
Bridge was selling a dozen scallops for £6.50 this morning, and with a
pot of crab meat shared for starters we had the makings of a delicious
gourmet meal. The butcher's smoked streaky bacon completed the BBQ
skewers, and Dad's expert cooking made the perfect meal.
